Disability Tax Credits

You may be eligible for Disability Tax Credits if you have a low to modest income and care for a child under 18 years who has a severe, prolonged, and markedly restricted mental or physical impairment. Markedly restricted is defined as: he/she is unable to perform a basic activity of daily living. (Cumulative affects of two conditions that are significant, can add up to a markedly restricted classification.) Prolonged impairment is one that can be reasonably expected to last for a continuous period of at least 12 months. In order to apply, the parent or caregiver must fill out form T2201 Disability Tax Credit Certificate; have it signed by a qualified person - a medical doctor, optometrist, audiologist, occupational therapist, psychologist, or a speech and language pathologist.

The disability tax credit (DTC) is a non-refundable tax credit that helps persons with disabilities or their supporting persons reduce the amount of income tax they may have to pay.


Child Care Subsidy & Special Needs Supplement

The Child Care Subsidy Program supports low and moderate income families to meet the costs of child care. The child care subsidy can be used to help pay for the following types of care:

• licensed or licensed not required family child care facilities

• licensed group child care centres

• licensed out-of-school programs

• licensed preschool programs

• child care in the child's own home

Eligibility: A parent must meet one of the following criteria: be employed or self-employed, seeking employment, attending an educational institution, have a medical condition that interferes with their ability to care for their child, or have a child who could benefit from a licensed preschool experience.

Special Needs Supplement: Parents eligible for child care subsidy, who have a child designated with special needs, who requires child care, may be eligible to receive the Special Needs Supplement. The SNS provides an extra $150.00 per month towards the cost of child care.


The Registered Disability Savings Plan

RDSP is a savings plan designated specifically for people with disabilities in Canada. The first of its kind in the world, this new tax-deferred savings vehicle will assist families in planning for the long-term financial security of their relatives with disabilities.

To benefit children & youth with special needs whose families do not have the resources to purchase a bike for their child. All bikes must be prescribed by a therapist and the sizing and matching of the bike done by a qualified therapist.
