The Kamloops Thompson School District provides Public Education Programs in the City of Kamloops, and the municipalities of Chase, Barriere, Logan Lake, and Clearwater. Sunnyhill Health Centre for Children

Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children...

  • is the child rehabilitation and development program of BC Children's Hospital
  • supports children and youth with disabilities, from birth to their 19th birthday
  • sees more than 5,000 children a year, from over 300 different communities in BC
  • is a teaching hospital affiliated with UBC
  • trains 150 students a year in medicine, social work, nursing, psychology, and therapy
  • conducts research so we can continually improve on the services we provide

BC Children’s Hospital

BC Children’s Hospital and Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children, agencies of the Provincial Health Services Authority, provide expert care for the province’s most seriously ill or injured children, including newborns and adolescents. Based in Vancouver, BC Children’s and Sunny Hill reach across the province with vital health services that may not be available anywhere else in B.C.

This handbook is for parents and caregivers of children and youth who may have, or have been diagnosed with, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).It provides information on ASD, intervention, and programs available for children and youth with ASD and their families. The Ministries of Children and Family Development (MCFD), Education and Health Services work closely to coordinate assessment, diagnosis, intervention and support services for children and youth with ASD and their families.

BC Autism Assessment Network (BCAAN)

What is BCAAN? A program of the Provincial Health Services Authority, BCAAN is responsible for assessing and diagnosing children who may have autism. The goal of BCAAN is to provide timely assessment and diagnosis within reasonable distance of the child's home. BCAAN includes specialists and health care professionals throughout BC. Assessment services are provided by each of the five geographic health authorities.

Established in 2006 by Vancouver Foundation, Giving in Action is a registered charitable organization that provides grants to families through two funds - the Family Independence Fund (FIF) and the Children and Youth with Special Needs (CYSN) Fund.


Strongest Families

Strongest Families is an effective, accessible educational service for families of children with mild to moderate behaviour problems (ages 3 to 12) offered through the Canadian Mental Health Association, BC Division.


BC Housing

Home Adaptations for Independence will provide financial assistance to seniors and persons with disabilities to support accessibility modifications that will promote continued safe and independent living. The assistance is available to eligible homeowners and tenants.
